Asset Management
Asset management is a widespread structured approach to the management of an institution’s assets on a long term basis. It basically emphasizes on the assets being tools for the efficient and effective management of your resources. Furthermore, the advent of increasingly powerful computer systems has made the practice of asset management possible. These computer systems put sophisticated analytical tools at your staff's fingertips enabling the easy accessibility of your resources.
In short, Asset Management includes the following:
- the identification of the need for the asset.
- then the provision of the asset, which includes its maintenance.
- ensuring the right operation of the asset.
- the adding or the alteration of new and existing assets as and when the need arises.
Metadata is the backbone for organizing & allowing easy access for distribution of video or audio content in different formats. At DRME we can help you manage your assets by organising your digital content through Metadata.
What is Metadata?
Metadata is structured and encoded data that describe characteristics of information bearing entities to aid in the identification, discovery, assessment, and management of the described entities.
Metadata is the backbone for organizing & allowing easy access for distribution of video or audio content in different formats. At DRME we can help you organise your digital content through Metadata.
In short,
- Metadata is information about data.
- Metadata is information about information.
- Metadata contains information about the displayed data or other data.
Metadata is information associated with a piece of data. The data is often media, such as a video clip. This could typically include the name of the clip, its length, date and year of shoot. Additionally, we could also add information like the details of the camera, the cinematographer, description of the shot, people involved in shot, to which occasion the shot was related, quality of footage, language of clip, was the footage royalty free or if it was purchased and so on.
Metadata can be stored either internally in the same file as the data, or externally in a separate file. Both ways can be advantageous:
- Internal storage allows transferring metadata together with the data it describes making that metadata available at hand and can be easily manipulated.
- External storage allows bundling metadata, for example in a database, for more efficient searching. Here metadata can be transferred simultaneously when using search options.
- Content owners with a large scale of information such as TV and News Stations and Government bodies have great need of content management systems. Metadata plays a vital role in enabling such systems to be automated. Each component implements a service such as content validation, search or generation and metadata information enables its easy retrieval.
- Metadata specification, security, transport, and storage needs have been identified through the implementation of prototype components. Content owners can now offer services and deliver content to consumers via interactive digital television touch screen kiosks and web browsers built into the latest mobile phones.
- Modern consumers are demanding high quality services constructed from video content that is timely, relevant, accurate, personalized and cheap. In the business environment the accuracy and timely arrival of information is often a vital ingredient of success and businesses demand access to this information while on the move, again from a variety of access terminals.
Research has shown that the most common queries asked by users of retrieval systems contain proper names, e.g. Get me a clip of the Eiffel Tower, or Get me a video clip of President Clinton speaking. These clips remain impossible to search accurately with manual intervention unless the media has metadata associated with it.
We at DRME can arrange asset management systems that cater to your individual organization. By using the technical know how and appropriate equipment from 3rd party companies we can render this service at your premises after we have delivered the footage on the client’s preferred format.
We follow this on location asset management to simply be precise in tagging detailed information related to that specific organization’s history in accordance with their preferences.
